“Yesterday while we were drawing Elias suddenly said “something about the saying ‘Practice makes perfect’ annoys me.” I responded with the famous Leonard Cohen lyric: “Forget your perfect offering; there’s a crack in everything – that’s how the light gets in”. As I worked on this still life, Alexi ran up and scribbled on the pot several times, the crayola markers I’d found at the back of the closet kept running out on me, and the cheap sketch paper wasn’t really strong enough for the media I use. Practice really doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes you more confident with rolling through imperfection, and more accepting of the resulting expression.”
